Exterior Painters in Hereford

Hereford Painters are painters and decorators serving Hereford, the surrounding Herefordshire towns, and rural communities.
What we cover:
- Full outdoor house repaints: the complete exterior from walls to woodwork
- Masonry, render, brick, and stone walls
- Timber windows, doors, fascias, soffits, and guttering
- Front doors and porch surrounds
- Garden walls and outbuildings
Half-timbered properties require a different approach to standard masonry painting. The timber frame expands and contracts with the seasons.
Standard exterior paint cracks at the joints within a few years. We use specialist flexible coatings on these properties.

Exterior Painting Services in Hereford
Masonry and Rendered Walls
Rendered facades are common across Hereford city and its suburbs. Solid brick properties are typical in some areas. We inspect every surface before quoting.
Before painting, we check for structural cracks, hollow sections, and poorly bonded areas. Loose render is cut back and made good. Cracks are filled with flexible exterior filler before priming begins. For detail, see our masonry painting page.
Windows and Woodwork
Timber sash windows are common in period properties. Sash channels are prone to paint binding if the work is not done carefully. We check that every sash moves freely after curing.
We strip back to sound timber, patch any deterioration, prime correctly, and apply durable exterior gloss or satin. For more on timber preparation, see our wood painting page.
Fascias, Soffits, and Gutters
Fascias and soffits protect the roof line from water ingress. We repaint timber fascias where sound and advise on replacement where not. Badly deteriorated fascias painted over will fail within a season.
uPVC fascias and gutters can be repainted with specialist adhesion primers. We inspect and advise on condition before recommending an approach.

Front Doors, Fences, and Outbuildings

Front Door and Porch
Front door painting changes the street presence of a property. We also cover individual door painting on rear doors, garage doors, and outbuilding access points.
We strip back, fill, prime, and apply a durable exterior finish. Colour consultation is included at the quotation stage.
Garden Walls, Fences, and Outbuildings
Brick boundary walls, gate piers, and rendered outbuildings need the same care as the main house. Rural properties often have stone or rendered outbuildings requiring a breathable paint system.
Fence painting, shed painting, and deck painting are included in our exterior scope. We also cover window frame painting on all property types.
Garage Doors
Garage doors take a lot of weather and are often the most visually dated surface on the exterior. We repaint up-and-over, side-hinged, and sectional doors in gloss or satin finishes on steel, GRP, and timber. Preparation includes degreasing, sanding, and priming before the finish coat. For a full breakdown, see our garage door painting page.

How Our Exterior Painting Works
1. Site Assessment
We visit and check every surface. We note surface type, existing coating condition, and any biological growth requiring treatment.
2. Surface Preparation
We clean moss, algae, and loose material from all surfaces. Render is repaired where needed. Timber is stripped back to sound material. Biological growth is treated with a mould wash and rinsed.
3. Priming
Bare timber gets a specialist exterior timber primer. Masonry gets a suited masonry primer. The primer stage determines how long the finish coat lasts.
4. Paint Application
Exterior paint needs dry conditions and temperatures above 5 degrees Celsius to cure. We do not apply coatings ahead of rain. Two finish coats are standard on all surfaces.
5. Inspection and Touch-Up
Once the final coat has cured, we inspect all surfaces in good light. Touch-ups are completed before we leave.

Exterior Painting Costs in Hereford
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01432 805377 for a precise quote.
Surface Area
A Holmer detached has considerably more wall area than a Belmont terrace. Access requirements also increase with building height. Larger properties require more materials and more time.
Surface Condition
Render in poor condition needs repair before painting. Timber requiring stripping adds preparation time. Biological growth on north-facing walls in Herefordshire’s damp climate adds treatment time.
Paint System
Standard masonry paint is the most economical option. Breathable or flexible systems for stone and timber-framed properties cost more per litre but last considerably longer on the right surface.
Trade insight. Half-timbered properties in Ledbury and stone cottages in Credenhill and Lugwardine need specialist coatings. Standard exterior masonry paint on these surfaces will fail within a few years.
