Conservatory Painting in Hereford

Conservatory painting in Hereford — white exterior property by Hereford Painters

Hereford Painters repaint and respray conservatory frameworks across Hereford and Herefordshire — UPVC, aluminium, and timber structures.

What we cover:

  • UPVC conservatory frameworks — colour change from white to grey, black, or any RAL colour
  • Aluminium conservatory frames — specialist preparation and finish
  • Timber conservatory frames — exterior paint system, properly prepared
  • Dwarf walls and surrounding brickwork where included

Conservatories built in the 1990s and 2000s are common across Hereford’s suburban areas — Tupsley, Holmer, and Belmont. Many are original white UPVC that has yellowed or simply looks dated against a recently refreshed main house.

Conservatory Painting Services

Conservatory repainting requires different techniques depending on the frame material — UPVC, aluminium, or timber each needs a specific primer and finish system.

UPVC Conservatory Frameworks

The most common conservatory job is a colour change on an ageing white UPVC structure. White UPVC yellows and stains over time — particularly on south-facing conservatories that take full UV exposure.

We clean and degrease all profiles, lightly scuff the surface for adhesion, apply a UPVC adhesion primer, then finish with two sprayed topcoats. The result is a smooth, factory-like finish. Conservatory glazing requires thorough masking before spray work begins — we mask all glazing carefully and remove all masking cleanly on completion.

Aluminium Conservatory Frames

Older aluminium conservatories are common on bungalows and detached properties in Holmer and along Kings Acre Road. The factory powder-coat fades and chalks over time — repainting restores the appearance and provides a fresh protective coat.

Aluminium requires a metal-specific primer before topcoat. The preparation process is slightly more involved than UPVC, which is reflected in the cost. The finished result is hard-wearing and suited to the varied Herefordshire weather.

Timber Conservatory Frames

Period properties in Hereford city centre, Ross-on-Wye, and Ledbury sometimes have older timber conservatories or lean-to structures. We sand back, prime bare timber, and apply a flexible exterior finish that handles seasonal movement.

We do not use a standard interior gloss on timber conservatory frames. Exterior timber paint is formulated to flex with temperature and humidity — a rigid finish cracks and allows water entry.

Dwarf Walls and Colour Options

Many conservatories sit on a low dwarf wall below the glazed section. Painting the dwarf wall at the same time as the frame gives a coordinated result. We can include the dwarf wall in the quote where required.

The shift from white to a contemporary dark grey or anthracite is the most popular colour change we carry out. Hereford Painters can match any RAL colour — call 01432 805377 to discuss options.

Why Masking Takes Time on a Conservatory

A conservatory has a high ratio of glass to frame, which makes masking the most time-intensive part of the job. Every glazing panel, seal, and hardware fitting must be masked before any spray work begins.

We take care with every masking line — overspray on glass or seals is difficult to remove cleanly. All masking is removed on completion and the site left clean.

UV-Stable Topcoats for South-Facing Conservatories

South-facing conservatories in Tupsley and Holmer receive high UV exposure in summer. A UV-stable topcoat is worth specifying — standard exterior finishes fade faster on sun-exposed UPVC.

We advise on topcoat selection at the quotation stage. The right product makes a significant difference to how long the finish holds before needing attention again.

Here’s How It Works

1. Assessment

We look at the frame material, condition, extent of yellowing or staining, and whether any profiles are cracked or damaged before quoting.

2. Cleaning and Degreasing

All surfaces are cleaned with an appropriate degreasing solution to remove dirt, mould, and residue.

3. Abrading

Profiles are lightly scuffed to help the primer key to the surface.

4. Masking

All glazing, seals, and hardware are masked carefully before any paint is applied.

5. Primer Application

UPVC adhesion primer or metal primer applied as appropriate to the frame material.

6. Topcoat

Two spray coats applied for a smooth, even finish. Brush or roller application is used only where spray access is not possible.

7. Inspection

Masking removed, all surfaces checked, and any touch-ups completed before we leave.

Conservatory Painting Costs in Hereford

Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01432 805377 for a precise quote.

Typical Price Ranges

Typical range: £350 to £1,100 depending on conservatory size and material.

Small lean-to (UPVC frame only): £350–£550. Standard 3m × 4m UPVC conservatory in Tupsley or Holmer: £450–£750. Large Victorian-style or orangery structure: £700–£1,100. Aluminium frame (additional prep): add £100–£200.

What Affects the Cost

Conservatory size — the number of roof bars, side panels, and door frames directly affects labour time and material quantity. Frame material — UPVC costs less to prep than aluminium; timber requires specialist finishes. Whether the dwarf wall or other elements are included also affects the total.
